The IBM 3592 JC Advanced Data Tape Cartridge (P/N 46X7452) is a new enterprise tape for IBM TS1140, TS1150, and TS1155 drives. It stores 4TB of uncompressed data on a TS1140 drive and 7TB on a TS1150 or TS1155 drive, so you can reformat the same cartridge for more capacity after a drive upgrade.
Enterprise speed and capacity
A TS1140 drive writes to the JC cartridge at up to 250 MB/s uncompressed, and a TS1150 drive at up to 360 MB/s. That speed, combined with multi-terabyte capacity, suits mainframe backup, large databases, and archive workloads in IBM TS3500 and TS4500 libraries and TS7700 virtual tape systems.
Protection for stored data
Each JC cartridge has a cartridge memory chip that records usage and drive history, and IBM 3592 drives support AES 256-bit encryption as data is written. The JC is rated for up to 30 years of archive life when stored correctly. Custom EDP barcode labels are available, so new cartridges arrive ready to load into your library.
Ideal for:
What is the capacity of an IBM 3592 JC tape?
The JC cartridge holds 4TB of uncompressed data on an IBM TS1140 drive and 7TB on a TS1150 or TS1155 drive. Formatting the cartridge for the higher capacity erases any data already on it.
Which IBM drives are compatible with the 3592 JC?
The JC works in IBM TS1140 (3592-E07), TS1150 (3592-E08), and TS1155 drives. Older TS1120 and TS1130 drives use JB cartridges, and TS1160 drives are built for JD and JE cartridges.
Is the 3592 JC the same as the JY?
No. The JC is the standard rewritable cartridge. The JY is the WORM (write-once, read-many) version, which can be written once but not changed or deleted, for records that must be kept unchanged.
What is the difference between the 3592 JC and JK?
The JK is the Economy version of the JC. It uses shorter tape, so it holds less data (500GB on a TS1140 drive) but reaches data faster. The JC is the full-length cartridge for maximum capacity.
Does the 3592 JC support encryption?
Yes. IBM TS1140, TS1150, and TS1155 drives encrypt data with AES 256-bit encryption as it is written to the JC cartridge. Encryption keys are managed by IBM key management software, which protects tapes stored offsite.
