The IBM 3592 JE Advanced Data Tape Cartridge (P/N 02CE960) is a new, high-capacity enterprise tape for the IBM TS1160 drive. It stores 20TB of uncompressed data and up to 60TB compressed at a 3:1 ratio, giving IBM tape libraries the most capacity per slot of any 3592 cartridge before the JF generation.
Fast backup for very large data sets
The TS1160 drive writes to the JE cartridge at up to 400 MB/s uncompressed, which shortens backup windows for large databases, mainframe workloads, and research or media archives. Storing more data on each cartridge also means fewer tapes to buy, label, and store, and fewer slots used in IBM TS4500 libraries.
Built for security and long retention
TS1160 drives encrypt data with AES 256-bit encryption as it is written, and an offline tape cannot be reached by ransomware or network attacks. Each JE cartridge includes a memory chip that tracks usage and drive history, and is rated for up to 30 years of archive life. Custom EDP barcode labels are available on request.
Ideal for:
What is the capacity of an IBM 3592 JE cartridge?
The JE holds 20TB of uncompressed data on an IBM TS1160 drive. The 60TB compressed figure assumes a 3:1 compression ratio. Data that is already compressed, such as video or images, will be closer to 20TB.
Which drive does the 3592 JE work with?
The JE cartridge is made for the IBM TS1160 (3592 60F/60E/60S) tape drive. Older TS1150 and TS1155 drives cannot use JE media, and the newer TS1170 drive uses JF cartridges.
Can a TS1160 drive use older 3592 cartridges?
Yes. Along with the JE, a TS1160 drive can read and write JD cartridges and read JC cartridges, which helps when you restore data written on older drives.
Is there a WORM version of the 3592 JE?
Yes. IBM sells the 3592 JV as the WORM (write-once, read-many) version of the JE. P/N 02CE960 is the standard rewritable cartridge, which can be erased and reused.
How should 3592 JE tapes be stored?
Store cartridges upright in their cases in a cool, dry room away from strong magnetic fields and direct sunlight. If tapes were shipped or stored somewhere colder or warmer, let them adjust to room temperature before loading them into a drive.
