Frequently Asked Questions
What is an IP-based phone system?
An IP-based phone system, also often called "IP telephony," refers to any telephone system that uses an internet connection (instead of a standard telephone line and/or cellular connectivity) to send and receive voice information.

An IP-based phone system connects to the internet via a router and modem instead of relying on a standard telephone landline to perform a phone call.

The IP-based phone system isn't exactly a brand new technology, and in fact, the first consumer-grade IP telephone has been around as early as 1995. However, as we know, back then, internet speed was still fairly slow, so the early IP-based phone systems had low audio quality, and not to mention were very expensive.

Nowadays, with the massive improvements in both internet speeds and telecommunication technologies, IP-based phone systems today offer really high (HD) voice quality. They are now also very affordable both in terms of running costs and up-front investment (since you no longer need to purchase very expensive hardware). Many of today's IP-based phone systems also offer advanced features not offered by traditional phone solutions.

Where can I sell my used cisco phones?
While your options may vary depending on the type of IP phone systems you are planning to sell, your location, or other factors, basically you have three main options in selling your business phones:

1. Finding your own buyers on peer-to-peer marketplaces (like eBay). In this option, you have the most freedom in setting your prices and terms in selling your cisco phone system. However, it can be difficult to find the right buyer willing to purchase the goods at your terms. Also, since IP-based phone systems are mainly used in enterprise usage, finding buyers in this type of marketplace can be quite challenging.

2. Listing your cisco phones on classified sites like Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, or even Amazon. It's typically easier to find buyers on these platforms when compared to on peer-to-peer marketplaces, but you'll have less freedom in setting your prices and terms.

3. Selling your used cisco phones to specialist IT Asset Disposition (ITAD) companies that will take the phone module off your hands. The easiest and quickest option, and you can still sell your cisco phones at a fair market price. If your phone module also includes a storage system that contains sensitive/regulated data, these ITAD companies will also perform secure data eradication for you.

How can I sell my used cisco phones?

You can basically sell your cisco phones in just a few simple steps:

Step 1: Evaluate the condition

Evaluate the condition of the cisco phone, both in terms of physical condition (check for any defects) and performance (whether it's still working as intended). Be honest, and list any defects and imperfections you've found rather than trying to hide them.

Step 2: Know your unit

If you've confirmed that the cisco phones are working properly, then the next step is to identify the phone's exact model to determine its value.

If the cisco phone has a visible brand/model name or serial number on it, then this process should be fairly easy.

Step 3: Taking pictures

Take photos of your cisco phone unit so you can show its condition to prospective buyers.

Make sure you capture the equipment's serial number and model name (if it's visible on the product). It's also important, to be honest: if there are any defects on the product, make sure it's captured in the photos.

Step 4: Finding buyers

Find prospective buyers, whether listing your product on classified sites, peer-to-peer marketplaces, or contacting an ITAD specialist company like Big Data Supply Inc.

Step 5: Packaging and shipping

Once you've found a buyer, then what's left is to package and ship the cisco phone unit you are selling to the buyer. Some ITAD companies may also offer to pick up your goods on your premises, especially if you are selling in bulk.

Are old cisco phones worth anything?
The answer to this question may vary depending on the model of cisco phone you are looking to sell, as well as other factors, here are some of the most important factors to consider when assessing the resale value of your cisco phones:

1. Age: the older a cisco phone is, obviously the lower the market price will be.
2. Condition: fairly self-explanatory, a cisco phone that's still working well will be priced higher than a phone unit with cosmetics of functional defects.
3. Newer model(s) available: an IP-based phone unit, or any technology assets, in general, will typically decrease in price when a direct replacement has been released (i.e., a used iPhone 12 will decrease in price as soon as iPhone 13 has been announced.) If there hasn't been any direct replacement released, even if the phone is relatively old, then typically, the price won't go down a lot.
4. Rarity: sometimes, albeit rare, older phone units can go up in price if it's no longer available on the market (i.e., for collectors, or if the equipment is useful in certain use cases)

This is a non-exhaustive list, and there are other factors that may affect your cisco phone's price.

Fortunately, it's now fairly easy to check for the average marketplace of your cisco phones model, as you can simply search for similar goods on sites like Amazon or eBay.
