IBM, 3592JB, Bandkassette, 700 GB, P/N 23R9830 NEU

The IBM 3592 JB Extended Data Cartridge (P/N 23R9830) is a new enterprise tape for IBM TS1120 and TS1130 drives. It stores 700GB of uncompressed data on a TS1120 drive and 1TB on a TS1130 drive, so the same cartridge can be reformatted for more capacity when you upgrade drives.

Keep legacy IBM tape systems running

Many mainframe and enterprise sites still run TS1120 and TS1130 drives in IBM TS3500 libraries and older 3494 systems, with years of backups and archives stored on JB media. New JB cartridges let you replace worn tapes, add capacity, and keep those systems in service without moving to a new tape format.

Usage tracking and data protection

Each JB cartridge has a built-in memory chip, called cartridge memory, that records how the tape and drive are used, which helps spot worn media before it causes errors. TS1120 and TS1130 drives also support AES 256-bit encryption to protect data written to the tape. The cartridge is rated for up to 30 years of archive life, and custom EDP barcode labels are available on request.

Ideal für:

• Sites running IBM TS1120 (3592-E05) or TS1130 (3592-E06) drives
• Replacing worn or expired JB cartridges
• Keeping legacy mainframe tape archives readable
• IBM TS3500 and 3494 library environments

Häufig gestellte Fragen

What is the capacity of an IBM 3592 JB tape?

A JB cartridge holds 700GB of uncompressed data when written on an IBM TS1120 drive. When the same cartridge is formatted on a TS1130 drive, it holds 1TB uncompressed. Reformatting erases any data already on the tape.

Which drives are compatible with the 3592 JB?

The JB cartridge is designed for IBM TS1120 (3592-E05) and TS1130 (3592-E06) drives. Newer TS1140 drives can still read JB cartridges, which helps when you need to restore old data after a drive upgrade.

What is the difference between the 3592 JA and JB?

The JA is the original 3592 data cartridge. The JB is the Extended Data Cartridge, with longer tape that holds more data: 700GB on a TS1120 drive compared with 500GB for a JA cartridge on the same drive.

What does the memory chip in the cartridge do?

The cartridge memory chip stores information about the tape, such as how many times it has been loaded and any errors the drive has recorded. The drive and library use this to track the condition of each cartridge without reading the tape itself.

Is the 3592 JB rewritable?

Yes. P/N 23R9830 is the standard rewritable JB cartridge. IBM sells a separate WORM (write-once, read-many) version, the 3592 JX, for records that must not be changed or deleted.
